DEAF SERVICES ADVOCATE/EDUCATOR – $28,810 – $34,500/year
The Deaf Services Advocate/Educator serves as a resource person/caseworker to clients who are Deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf/blind or have disabilities requesting services from SafePlace to help with their immediate safety needs; conducting targeted outreach to raise awareness about SafePlace services within the Deaf community, and providing training/education on topics related to domestic/sexual violence against persons who are Deaf. This position is expected to work collaboratively with the Deaf Services team to achieve program goals.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field and 3-4 years relevant experience; fluency in American Sign Language and life experience or knowledge of Deaf culture; experience in planning and conducting trainings/presentations; knowledge of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence; knowledge of social service, social welfare, mental health, and criminal justice agencies as well as entities that specifically serve individuals who are Deaf or people with disabilities in the Austin area.
