Blessed are the Ethical… Course Description:
Following ethical standards can feel like a curse sometimes when you are put in compromising positions. In this workshop, we will take a look at the RID-NAD Code of Professional Conduct and its practical applications within religious settings. The line between interpreter and being a member/congregant of a religious organization can be difficult to determine at times and we will explore that boundary.
We will look at the individual tenets of the CPC and then we will apply those to specific situations in a small group and large group settings. Blessed are the ethical… because if they are well-equipped then they can defend their actions!
Participants will be able to:
articulate how the tenets of the CPC support ethical decisions they choose to make in our mock situations;
critique the decisions of others via their understanding of the CPC tenets;
list the possible implications of the ethical decisions they make;
leave with a clear understanding of the tenets of the CPC; and apply and employ the method for analyzing ethical situations to the real world of religious interpreting.
