Job Description Under direct supervision of interpreter coordinator, performs a variety of routine clerical, reception, and office support functions; performs other related duties as required.
* Recordkeeping
* Responsible for maintaining office filing and recordkeeping systems;
* enters, edits, and retrieves data;
* oversees billing function of department by calculating charges and sending/following up on bills,
* processes forms such as expenditure claims, employee time sheets, interpreter vouchers;
* maintains records, confidential files and other related information for interpreting department needs.
* Communication/Customer Service
* Answers and routes telephone calls
* conveys information orally, in sign language and in writing;
* answers inquiries from businesses, clients, and staff, regarding departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
* directs clients to appropriate resources;
* schedules and coordinates interpreter assignments;
* provides materials, and initiates requests for information when required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
* Operate standard office equipment.
* Ability to collaborate with a variety of individuals across the organization;
* Highly refined interpersonal, conflict resolution, problem solving, writing and verbal communication skills.
* Accurately type and learn to efficiently use various software applications including Microsoft Office Suite; communicate effectively in oral and written form;
* Follow instructions;
* Organize and prioritize work;
* Perform basic research and report results;
* Read and apply rules, regulations, and procedures;
* Learn and follow standard office procedures;
* Learn appropriate filing and recordkeeping systems;
* Work cooperatively and effectively with staff, clients and businesses, and the deaf/and hard of hearing community, and the general public.
Background
* Completion of an Interpreter Training Program and/or Executive Assistant program preferred.
* Any combination of training and/or experience which demonstrates ability to perform the duties as described;
* a typical qualifying background would include experience working in an office environment involving public contact.
Preferred qualifications:
* Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language and other sign systems.
