Upcoming Sign Language Class 2014 – DFW
Do you have coworkers or adult family members who have always talked about learning sign language? Are there people you know who you wish would be able to see the Deaf perspective?
Welcome to Intro to Deaf Culture and Sign Language for Beginners
This is a community class that helps bridge some of the gaps and breaks the stereotypes of what "Deaf" looks like. Students will be introduced to various members of our local community, who have a variety of hearing loss and use different modes of communication and equipment.
Students coming to the class will learn basic conversational sign language, and have opportunities for using the language they have learned as they progress.
The textbook we use is "Teaching Yourself ASL in 24 Hours" by Trudy Suggs, a Deaf author, and public speaker. Additional internet resources are given, homework is required.
An orientation class will be on February 5th at 6:30pm, Classes will begin February 12 and will end May 14th, from 6:45pm til 8:15pm. Childcare is available during class time. (Dinner is also available for $3.50 for adults and $2.00 for children).
