CAAG VRS Files for Deaf-Blind VRS!
This Morning CAAG VRS included their intentions to offer VRS to Deaf-Blind consumers in their Annual Report to the FCC.
CAAG has been diligently working on accessible technology for Deaf-Blind consumers of VRS and is now moving forward with releasing the service in response to concerns in the Deaf-Blind Community regarding IP-Relay providers leaving the market.
Below is a copy of the portion of CAAG’s filing that announces this critical service. It reads:
During the next service year, CAAG intends to offer VRS specifically suited for Deaf-Blind/Low Vision individuals. CAAG will distribute iTRS access technology in the form of software that utilizes a high contrast interface that is compatible with screen/braille reader technology. CAAG intends to use a single VRS Interpreter system where one VRS Interpreter relays information from the Deaf-Blind/Low Vision consumer via Sign language through video into spoken English and relays information from the hearing consumer via English text through screen/braille reader technology. As opposed to a dual CA system, CAAG believes a single VRS Interpreter system comes closer to functional equivalency for Deaf-Blind/Low Vision consumers and contributes to preserving, and reducing waste to, the Fund.
