COMMUNITY WORKSHOP FOR SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER
As ALLIES, we will explore deafness vs. Deafhood, Colonialism, and Audism so we can re-frame our thoughts. Enlighten ourselves on the dimensions of being Deaf and understand the impact the “system” had on Deaf people. Leave workshop as a stronger ally!

The Allies in Deafhood workshop have been made possible by Deafhood Foundation, Deaf Action Center and Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Service, Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. DARS is an approved RID sponsor for continuing education activities. This program is offered for 0.6 CEUs and assumes some knowledge of the topic.

A JOURNEY INTO DEAFHOOD
All-day Workshop for Deaf People

As a group of Deaf people, we will explore the word “DEAF” and learn what the Deaf World was like prior to 1880. We will also learn about the aftermath (Milan Conference) and explore its effects.
Through critical examination, framing and re-framing, our presenter, Butch Zein, will discuss our history, the dimensions of Deaf people, Colonialism and the Deafhood Vision.
