“Think of a Word Quick!” Presented by Trudy Suggs
DATE: December 12, 2015
TIME: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
When we interpret, we often encounter situations where we must make a variety of word and phrase choices, but don’t always respond quickly enough to offer the most appropriate or best choices. This workshop, designed for the intermediate to advanced interpreter (both Deaf and hearing), provides word/sign exercises that assist participants in expanding their lexicon and making appropriate vocabulary choices in either ASL or English. A focus is on developing mental responses during the interpreting process, and how to expand lexicon in both languages. Discussed are various obstacles commonly and uncommonly found when in the “hot seat.” Participants also engage in activities designed to expand vocabulary choices and to devise strategies for overcoming obstacles while thinking quickly. Activities include games, actual interpreting, and lexical activities for numerous settings, including educational, corporate, medical, social service, and legal. Discussion is also a major part of the workshop. Presented to over 40 audiences nationwide.
In ASL only. We still have a few spots left so RVSP ASAP!
