Workshop/Course Description: As medical interpreters, we must know the complexities of the human anatomy as well as the complex visual language of ASL. Proficiency at blending these dynamics can be challenging at best. This scope of practice includes a wide variation of the Deaf population needing medical services, which could include prenatal, geriatrics, mental health, labs, clinics, specialists and more. We will explore and evaluate interpreting, sight translation within medical encounters, along with common physical production and ethical errors. Participants will engage in collaborative kinesthetic activities involving simulations on a variety of medical topics. Do you have horripilation, diurnal enuresis or vasovagal syncope even thinking about medical interpreting? Don’t panic! There is a remedy for you!
