Audition Announcement
Who: The Collin Theatre Center
What: SPRING AWAKENING by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater. Directed by Brad Baker and Mark Mullino, with choreography by Paula Morelan, and ASL direction by Edward Bart. This production is inspired by the Deaf West Theatre Company revival.
Casting: Seeking Deaf and Hearing actors for this production; 7-10 men and 6-10 women. All roles are open. Characters are primarily 17-22 years of age; with one Male and one Female character aged 40s-50s. Some actors may play more than one character. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition. Deaf and Hearing actors who are familiar with American Sign Language are encouraged to audition.
NOTE: The directors intend to cast one Deaf Male and one Deaf Female actor in this production. The directors are also open to casting actors who are physically challenged (i.e. wheelchair).
NOTE: All actors in this production may be asked to learn and perform using American Sign Language. If you are fluent or conversant in ASL, please demonstrate that at the audition.
When: Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Open call between 6:00-9:00 PM.
American Sign Language Callbacks (for Hearing actors only) will take place on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 from 7:00-10:00 PM.
Callbacks for Hearing and Deaf actor/singer/dancers will be Thursday, January 18, 2018 from
6:00 – 10:00 PM. Note: Callbacks for Wednesday and Thursday will be posted on the Collin Theatre Center Facebook page by 10:00 AM on Wednesday January 18, 2018.
Where: John Anthony Theatre, on the campus of Collin College, Jupiter Road, between Spring Creek Parkway and Parker Road. (I-75 N, exit Spring Creek Pkwy-East, R on Jupiter, L onto campus.)

Call: Open Call. NO appointments will be arranged. All roles are open.
Prepare: Hearing actor/singers … Perform one song (16-32 bars in length) that is in the style of the show. You MAY sing from the show. Please bring sheet music in the correct key, clearly marked.
Prepare: Deaf actors … Perform one 30-second monologue of your choice, preferably from a contemporary play or film script. An interpreter will be available at the auditions.
Rehearsals: Rehearsals begin Friday, January 19, 2018. Rehearsals will generally follow this schedule: Monday thru Friday evenings from 7-10 pm; and Sunday afternoons from 2-6 pm.
Performances: SPRING AWAKENING will be performed on the campus of Collin College-Spring Creek in Plano in the John Anthony Theatre. Performances are March 1-11, 2018. Evening performances are at 8 PM. Weekend matinee performances are at 2:15 PM.
Plot: SPRING AWAKENING is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the German play Spring Awakening by Frank Wedekind. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. This production is inspired by the inclusive staging by the Deaf West Theatre Company; which included Deaf and Hearing actors, as well as both physically able and physically challenged actors.
