Interpreter Services Supervisor
Job Expectation. The supervisor is responsible for the successful and profitable
management of SAI; ensuring services are provided with maximum quality and efficiency.
The supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of the resources (human and material)
space, equipment, scheduling, office operations. Reports to the Director of SAI.
Essential Job Functions:
Business Development
• Executes Marketing Plan to expand customer base.
• Builds and maintains customer relationships and partnerships; develops leads and
pursues business opportunities
• Monitors developments and trends in the field, responding to emerging needs
• Maintains community relations (Deaf and interpreting communities.) Solicits input/
feedback and ensures customer satisfaction
• Provides information regarding program/agency/interpreting field, including
presentations and workshops.
Program and Contract Management
• Collects and analyzes program statistics
• Develops and maintains policies needed for smooth operations
• Prepares and monitors program budget
• Act as POC and maintains contract compliance with a variety of state, federal and
private contracts. Provides regular reporting as required
• Responds to RFPs and bids as needed; attends award meeting
• Other duties as assigned
Supervision/Evaluation
• Supervises/evaluates administrative staff (office coordinators)
• Maintains sufficient pool of qualified interpreting staff and independent
subcontractors.
• Acts as Manager On Duty (MOD) to troubleshoot staff needs after hours on a
rotating basis.
• Monitors the scheduling process to ensure highest quality customer service.
• Works with HR regarding hiring, firing and disciplinary actions as needed.
Interpreting
• Responsible for coverage of contracts during business hours
• Available for on-demand, back up or emergency interpretation as needed.
Skills/Experience:
• Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal (English and ASL) and written.
• Minimum of two years’ experience with supervision
• Ability to provide positive leadership to a diverse workforce
• Ability to analyze business metrics to determine program efficiency
• RID/BEI Certified Interpreter with at least 5 years post certification interpreting
experience
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding language access for deaf
people
• Fluency with a variety of computer programs/software used for scheduling and data
collection (or ability to learn)
Education/Licenses/Certificates:
• Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
• Bachelor’s Degree – interpreting or business related
Work Environment:
• Traditional office environment within an agency providing a wide variety of services
