The Trainer will provide an overview of the ADA in two parts including how to advocate for communication access for deaf and hard of hearing people. It’s become a challenge to know where to begin or who to talk to in terms of advocating for what you believe in. For: All participants who need to learn more about disability laws. Learning Objectives: Participants will describe how advocacy can benefit Deaf people in areas of equal access and equal rights.Participants will list principles of Disability Laws including the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990). Participants will compare and contrast between self-advocacy and advocacy.Participants can analyze advocacy techniques and tips. Participants will list ways to advocate for effective communication.
Participants will evaluate how to approach advocacy situations while complying with interpreting ethics. 0.40 CEUs Approved: RID PPO, BEI Ethics/Interpreting Language: ASL
