Community members:
The Health and Human Services Commission’s Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (ODHHS) provides an annual weeklong summer program for deaf or hard of hearing children between the ages of 8 and 17. Called Camp Sign, this program is one of the important ways ODHHS serves the Texas deaf and hard of hearing community.
As you will remember, Camp Sign 2020 was cancelled due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. We had sincerely hoped an in-person camp would be possible this summer, but after much consideration, we unfortunately needed to make the decision to cancel Camp Sign 2021. We remain committed to provide young deaf and hard of hearing Texans with leadership and social growth opportunities. This summer, we will provide interactive Camp Sign activity kits and corresponding webinars at no cost to youth and their families. We are also exploring partnership opportunities for other online programming. Additionally, we are actively planning for an in-person Camp Sign in the summer of 2022. We will continue to keep you informed on our planned activities this summer and camp next year.
