BMI – it’s not just related to your health! Learn more about another, lesser-known BMI: the Black Male Interpreter.
Did you know that of the more than 10,000 certified interpreters in the U.S., only 24% are male and only 4% are black? In this presentation, follow along as the presenter details a history of his personal experiences as a minority within a minority in the interpreting field.
Hear about his challenges, some common to all interpreters, but some that are unique to interpreters of color, and how he deals with them. Also, learn about some of the misconceptions that he’s faced on the job and how he handles them.
What has he learned in the nearly 17 years in the field? Get to know about the practical lessons that have helped him navigate the ever-changing landscape of ASL interpreting and continue to build and maintain relationships in the profession and in the Deaf and HH community.
Why might this be of interest to you? From this webcast you will:
- Gain knowledge of a Black Interpreter’s experience, and even more specifically, come to understand his viewpoint
