Description of Workshop “Weddings, Funerals and Sermons: Interpreting Christian Content”
Interpreting Christian content requires focused knowledge and skills related to specific concepts and situations. This workshop will introduce participants to an understanding of the unique dynamics of weddings, funerals and sermons and provide instruction regarding how to apply resources to prepare for each situation.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop participants will understand how to:
- Identify and discuss specific aspects to consider when preparing to interpret weddings.
- Identify and discuss specific aspects to consider when preparing to interpret funerals.
- Identify resources to utilize when preparing to interpret sermons
- Analyze Christian content and consider how to effectively reformulate the English message into ASL.
- Interpret specific Christian terms and relative content from English to ASL.

Peggy Cobb, MS
Tx BEI Master, Court, RID CI & CT
Peggy Cobb currently teaches full time in the Interpreter Training Program at Tarrant County College where she earned her Associates degree. Peggy earned her BAS degree in Business Administration and Education from Dallas Baptist University and her MS degree in American Sign Language / English Interpreting Pedagogy from the University of North Florida. Peggy holds four interpreter certifications: Texas Board of Evaluation for Interpreters Master level and Court certification and National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Certificate of Interpreting (CI) and Certificate of Transliterating (CT). Peggy has been a certified interpreter since 1988 and has interpreted in various settings, such as K-12 Education, post-secondary education, legal settings, medical, mental health and much more. Prior to teaching at Tarrant County College, Peggy taught American Sign Language at the High School level for nine years. Outside of work, Peggy enjoys camping and spending time with her five granddaughters.
