Please help my daughter’s education!
Please help my daughter’s education!

ADDRESS: McKinney ISD
CITY: McKinney, Texas
My wife and I have been struggling with our school district for more than 3
years to provide my 9yr old daughter an appropriate education. She was born
deaf and then was found to have mild Autism at 3yrs old. MISD refuses to
let her attend the Regional Deaf School in Plano. None of my daughter’s
teachers have been fluent in Sign except for the AI teacher who comes in for
a whole 1hr per day (what a joke!).
We are in the process of taking them to Due Process and so we ask that
anyone who is interested please come show support for my daughter as well as
all other Deaf children who need to have proper education. Nothing is
required except that you just be there to help us show them what Deaf
culture and ASL is all about and you can come or go anytime you want. We
truly appreciate any help you can give!

That piss me off. Big city doesn’t offer to serve for kind child to be offer for an education. My parents have been work hard to bring education for deaf children in small city in west Texas. They did. Keep fight!

I can understand the frustration you are experiencing. I have a special needs child that is non-verbal and I am trying to teach her sign. She cannot communicate with others and NONE of her teachers know how to sign. This is her 3rd year in the Frisco ISD and we have yet to come across a teacher that can understand her. She is not getting the education that she deserves or needs. I would love to come and support you…you just tell me where and I’ll make arrangements to come!
Good luck in your fight…I just think it’s a shame to have to fight to begin with!
I know your pain and frustration. We had to fight for our daughter in FISD. Don’t stop and follow through to the end. It will get discouraging and probably expensive.
If you need any resources (lawyer and advocate recommendations) than please email me.
My daughter is 12 and has aspergers. The school and their admistrators constantly revert to punishement as a form of changing her behavior. They have no understanding of her disability and believe that sending her to the criminal school will teach her a lesson and scare into behaving like a non-autistic child.
Finding the right placement will give your daughter what she needs to succeed and that is worth it.
I totally understand. My younger brother goes to Mckinney and he is hard of hearing. For the longest time they wouldnt fund his FM System. Now we are fighting with them to help make sure he is ALWAYS wearing hearing aids!! They dont have their priorities straight at all!!! They need to spend less at the jail thats right down the street and more on the kids! She needs to be in PLano. I also have a little brother who actually goes to Davis in PLano and it is amazing. He has been going there since Kindergarten. Good Luck!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you!!
