DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS
Reports to the Department Chair of ESOL. Teaches a variety of ESOL reading and writing courses for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and is responsible for instructing students in accordance with college policy and procedures. Advises students, maintains office hours, assists with registrations, develops curriculum, maintains professional competence, and participates in professional development activities. Faculty assignments may include days/evenings/weekends and/or multiple campus locations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARD
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience: Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Required: Proficiency in ASL. Must provide documented work experience in the field of deaf education or certification as teacher of the deaf. Must demonstrate sensitivity to and knowledge of the deaf community and a diverse student body. Understand the comprehensive mission and philosophy of community colleges. Secondary Teaching experience or a methodology course related to teaching at the high school level. Effective planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred: Post-secondary teaching experience.

EDUCATION
Required: Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the field of deaf education; ability to teach ASL as L1

Preferred: Graduate semester hours in ASL Studies.

TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS
Required: Official transcripts received directly from an educational institution. Applicants may request to have the transcript indicating the degree that qualifies him/her for a faculty position sent to the Highland Business Center, Attn. E. M. Breedlove, 5930 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin, TX 78752. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt of a completed ACC Employment Application and an official transcript received from educational institutions.

ACC BENEFITS OVERVIEW:
Full-time Faculty, and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 90 days of employment. ACC benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D. Adjunct faculty who meet the specific criteria outlined in the Texas Insurance Code, section 1551.1021 can elect to participate in the State’s Group Benefits Plan at his or her cost. ACC Hourly (temporary) jobs are not benefits eligible positions. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by federal law. The ACC Board of Trustees decided in 1981 that ACC employees would not participate in Social Security.
