Volunteer Opportunities with New Education Program

The Deaf Action Center of Dallas, Texas is recruiting volunteers for its new Education Program. We are dedicated to eliminating barriers to persons who are deaf or hard of hearing, and we are on a mission to help our students discover and develop their talents. We want to prepare them for fulfilling careers or vocations. Join our Education Team in turning around the trend that leads them through high school into a void of uncertainty. Our students are an untapped valuable resource. Support them. We start in Dallas. From Dallas, there is the world.

Please consider becoming a tutor for Deaf Action Center’s Education Program.

Education Volunteer Tutoring Positions are open in the following areas:

• Academics: math, reading, writing, history, science, biology
• Testing: Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), GED
• Languages: American Sign Language (ASL), English
• Others: Driver’s Education, Computer
• Learning Groups: K-12, adult ESL learners, parents and family members, volunteers

Tutoring will take place at the Deaf Action Center and participating high schools. This is an ideal opportunity for those of you with sign language skills, and those of you who enjoy teaching. Your chosen career may be teacher for the deaf, sign language interpreter, police officer, doctor, lawyer, judge, engineer, artist, business owner, manager or college professor. All careers are welcomed. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone wanting to develop their signing skills, wanting a new learning experience, or wanting to earn extra college credits. We’re looking for positive role models.
