U.S. River Cruise and Rhine River Cruise 2011

U.S. River Cruise and Rhine River Cruise 2011

Finally a river cruise in the U.S. – river cruise sailing close to home

Sometimes, when I discuss multi day river cruises with my clients they are surprised to learn that river cruises are not only offered in Europe and Asia. Some river cruises are also available in the U.S. like a 7-night round trip from Portland on the Columbia and Snake rivers. You think there is nothing to see? You will be amazed by what you can explore there! It is the beautiful scenery and history that captures the visitors’ attention.

The river cruise starts and terminates in Portland, Oregon. Portland, the “City of Roses” with many parks and green spaces is also well known for a large number of microbreweries and its love for coffee.

The river cruise takes the passengers through 8 locks and a still pristine and wild area along the Columbia and Snake rivers. One of the highlights is the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. And the region of the Snake river is the area that the Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed westwards in 1805. Follow the Lewis & Clark’s footstep at the Fort Clatsop National Memorial where the expedition spent the winter. Stops in places like quaint Walla Walla and Astoria are also on the itinerary. Vintners of the Walla Walla valley produce internationally recognized and award winning wines. Astoria is a city rich of scenic beauty and history with museums, parks and yet preserves a small town atmosphere. It is the western end of the Lewis & Clark Trail. Many Hollywood movies were produced in Astoria.
