Interpreter Workshop: Reading Body Language – Austin

Interpreter Workshop: Reading Body Language – Austin

Hello all,

I’ll be giving a brand new workshop on Nov 6th at Austin Community College.
Read below if you want to come.

Language, as we know it, is very much an integral part of humanity. We need
it to communicate our ideas, thoughts, and feelings with others. Language
is also used in a way where it allows us to bond with people and come
together like a community. Non-verbal communication plays a major role in
our daily activities. This workshop will focus on reading body language
when someone is signing in ASL. We will be studying many different
perspectives: proximity, Body language, kinesics, and nonverbal gestures.
This workshop will be an eye opener even for the most experienced
interpreter.

Objective:

* We will discuss how space and interaction that occurs within the given
space with other individuals.
* Understanding the movements of the body and the meaning that each movement
represents in communication.
* Gestures that do not give a specific meaning but rather give connotations
of the statement that is being said, verbally or non verbally.
* Body Language and how they are applied to ASL.
* How to identify body language from sign language.
