The American Sign Language Interpreting Program in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston seeks applicants for a nine-month, non-tenure track, full-time instructor position beginning September, 2013.

The Bachelor’s program in American Sign Language Interpreting (ASLI) (http://www.uh.edu/class/comd/asli/ (http://www.uh.edu/class/comd/asli/) ) began in fall, 2009 and currently has approximately 30 students. It is the first of its kind in the state of Texas.

We are seeking a creative, innovative applicant with a passion for teaching the theoretical and practical aspects of American Sign Language.

Responsibilities include; teaching ASL and related classes; curriculum development and evaluation; assisting with the development of community outreach programs and workshops, and working closely with the ASLI Program Coordinator and other ASL faculty.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in ASL Linguistics, Interpreting, Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or related field from an accredited institution, native/near-native proficiency in ASL and three years teaching.
