3 Bridges Sign Language Services
Body Language and ASL
A workshop presented by Dr. Byron Bridges
February 9, 2013
Language is the human capacity for acquiring and using complex systems of communication. We need it to share ideas, thoughts and feelings with other humans, but what about BODY LANGUAGE? Research shows that up to 70% of all communication is derived from nonverbal behavior. A roll of the eye, a tightening of the jaw, the slouch of the back all indicates the attitude and mental state of a person. How does this apply in sign language and what cues do you need to look for? Lets find out together as we explore Body Language & ASL.
This workshop will focus on how to read and detect body language signals from people using ASL. Through lecture and small group discussions, we will analyze the different perspectives of body language to include proximity, kinesics, and nonverbal gestures. Guaranteed to be an eye opener for even the most experienced interpreter.
