Verlon Lavon Gideon, 81, passed away July 30, 2013, in Fort Worth, TX after a courageous battle with cancer.

Service: A visitation will be held, Thursday, August 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home. 

The funeral services will be held at the Webb Baptist Church, Friday, August 2, at 2 p.m., followed by burial in Arlington, TX at the Moore Memorial Gardens.

Verlon was born to H.P. Gideon and Jessie McDonald in Snyder, TX on May 31, 1932. Around the time of 1964 Verlon moved to the DFW area where he spent the rest of his days. Verlon was a devoted husband to his wife Kay for 52 years. He was a devout Baptist man; one of his greatest joys in life was his faith in God, and dedication to the church. Verlon and Kay have been members of the Webb Baptist Church in Arlington, TX for 15 years. While serving as Deacon at Webb, Verlon was given the Deacon Emeritus Award. 

Verlon retired from Bell Helicopter after 27 years of service and went on to fulfill some of his life dreams. Verlon worked for the AISD and Six Flags Over Texas interpreting for the deaf. He also taught sign language at his church, as well as, the TCC senior continued education program. He became a very active volunteer in his community; he served at the Medical Center of Arlington for 9 years, while doing so he received the Volunteer of The Year Award, and the Frist Award for community service. Verlon was a talented man he led and taught music for his churches through the years. 

Verlon was always an optimistic man; he never met a stranger, and had a way of making everyone feel as though he cared for them. He was known for always being happy and an outgoing, faithful servant of God. Verlon seriously enjoyed history and was a big Civil War buff. He loved music, especially Southern Gospel, and for a long time sang in a Barbershop Quartet. Verlon was a fan of technology and loved playing with his extensive gadget collection. Verlon was a faithful husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather; he will be greatly missed by everyone who loves him. 

Verlon was preceded in death by his parents, HP and Jessie Gideon; and a sister, Billie Fulmer.

Survivors: Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Eula "Kay" Gideon; son Doug Gideon, and wife Cindy; daughter, Verna Monk, and her husband Terry; brother, Wendell Gideon, and his wife Betty; Sister-In-Law, Sue Koerner, and her husband Alfred; grandsons, Travis and Jacob Monk, and Jonathan Gideon; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
