Austin Fire Department Providing Free Strobe Smoke Detectors to Deaf and Hard of Hearing residents, Blue Paw Energy providing installation.

The Austin Fire Department has a FREE SMOKE ALARM program which is open to all residents of Austin. Austin residents must own their own home or duplex/condo. The program includes Strobe Smoke Alarms for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing which become the property of the requestor and if they move they should take them to their new home. As this program expands, there will be periods when certain Smoke Alarm models are unavailable, however Austin Fire Department has a limited quantity of smoke alarms (both regular and strobes) to give away. For the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, these strobe smoke alarms are of the 120v type which some are hardwired and some plugs into an outlet, both which are available in the inventory.

Wired strobe smoke alarms will require a qualified and licensed electrician Jason Shaw with Blue Paw Energy is a deaf electrician who is qualified and licensed to install these units.
