Texas Tech University Job Details for Part-time Interpreter position

Department:  Student Disability Services
Position Description:  Provide interpreting services for undergraduate, graduate or doctoral Deaf and hard of hearing students registered with Student Disability Services at Texas Tech University. Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities that support the programs and services provided by Student Disability Services. Work schedule may vary to accommodate day and evening courses for deaf and hard of hearing students. Work is performed under direction and performance is evaluated on accomplishment of assigned tasks, professionalism, attendance, punctuality, communication, flexibility, advancement of skills and education.

Major/Essential Functions:  Ensure Deaf and hard of hearing students are provided equal access to communication in the classroom, on campus, or other events as assigned.  Provide assistance by interpreting for Student Disability Services and/or Division of Student Affairs when programs are coordinated, meetings are conducted, etc.

Required Qualifications: Applicant must hold a Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Certification level of Basic / Level I , Level II, Level III and Advanced, or Level IV, Level V and Master.  National certifications will be considered along with the ability to successfully receive state certification within 1 ½ of hire date.  The applicant must have the ability to use linguistic knowledge to interpret/transliterate effectively, accurately, and impartially at high registers, both receptively and expressively. Dependable transportation and a cell phone are necessary components of the positon.

Preferred Qualifications:  Associate degree or Bachelor degree from an accredited institution.  Documented two to three years of experience interpreting in university settings.  Proficiency with various forms of technology used for supporting communication and work within job assignments or classroom.

Minimum Hire Rate:  $23.36
Pay Statement:  Compensation is commensurate with the qualifications of the individual selected, budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, and the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
Travel Required: Up to 25%
Shift:  Other
Schedule Details:  80% of hours worked are from 8:00-6:00 pm; 20% are nights and or weekends ; will vary from semester to semester.
