DALLAS – Uber is helping one of its drivers compete in the Deaflympics.
Ryan Poindexter drives for Uber in the DFW area. He was nominated for the UberWISH initiative, a program that helps drivers’ dreams come true.
Poindexter is a member of the United States deaf men’s volleyball team. He’s been working as a driver hoping to make enough money to make it to next year’s Deaflympics in Turkey.

This week Uber announced it was paying for his trip.
“It’s wonderful. It’s wonderful. I’ve been looking forward to it for a long time, so I feel really lucky to be able to contribute in some way to what he’s doing. We at Uber are just really proud to partner with him and to be a really small part of all the amazing work that he’s doing,” said Beth Huddleston, general manager for Uber DFW.
More than 1,500 Uber drivers in Texas were nominated for the company’s initiative.
