INTERPRETED SHOW: Explore Time in a Dance Performance Merging Science and Art 11/14/19 – Houston

HMNS: ASL – Ticktock! Explore Time in a Dance Performance Merging Science and Art, Nov. 14, 2019

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is excited to offer American Sign Language interpretation at the performance of Ticktock on November 14. The Deaf and hard-of-hearing community receive a special discount of $5 off this event. Email Matti at [email protected] for reservations.

Explore scientific concepts rooted in physics, but illustrated through the lens of dance. A collaboration between astrophysicist Dr. Paul Sutter and Syren Modern Dance Company, Ticktock is a revolutionary investigation of time. Take a peek at the process of creating the performance.

Dr. Sutter’s vivid narration of Syren’s highly physical sequences interweaves Einstein’s theories of Special and General Relativity, timekeeping and horology, memory, the arrow of time, time dilation, gravity, and perception of time–all dramatically, and appropriately, lit from above by the Moon, perhaps human’s most iconic symbol of time.

Following the program, Dr. Sutter will sign copies of his latest book Your Place in the Universe which was released earlier this year.

Ticktock hosted at the Houston Museum of Natural Science will be performed in the gallery displaying “Moon” by Luke Jerram. Ticktock debuted in June 2019 at New York’s Bryant Park as part of their contemporary dance series.

Ticktock is choreographed by Kate St. Amand to music composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Symphony No. 29 in A Major). The production is performed by Paul Sutter, Rivkins Christopher, Victoria Ellis, Jessica Nolan, Darcie Perkins and Lynn Peterson.

Ticktock is made possible by support from New York City’s Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, The Ohio State University Division of Social and Behavioral Science, The Ohio State University Department of Psychology, The STEAM Factory at OSU, WCBE, Greater Columbus Arts Council, Aleph Fund, and Particle Fever Athletic.
