NTPA Deaf Theatre promotes equal access to the performing arts to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, while
encouraging diversity, equity, education and social inclusiveness.

Deaf Theatre Productions

This new adaptive theatre program provides an opportunity for Deaf and hard of hearing actors to take the stage alongside hearing actors who are fluent in ASL. Under the direction of therapeutically minded staff, certified interpreters, and qualified volunteers, our actors will create and perform an innovative and inclusive theatre production presented for Deaf and hearing audiences alike.

NTPA Deaf Theatre Showcase “A Union of Hands and Voices”

June 30-July 2, 2023 at Willow Bend Center of the Arts Directed by Karen Snapp

Join us for an original showcase written by director Karen Snapp that highlights the diverse culture of the Deaf, styles of Deaf theater and passion for this inclusive art form. Actors will be invited share their life experiences following scenes using a variety of Deaf theater styles.

Summer Camp

Deaf Theatre Production Camp – Camp Annie!

Open to Deaf/hard of hearing youth and their siblings in grades 1-12 Monday, June 26 – Friday, June 30, 2023 at 9am-3pm at Willow Bend Center of the Arts

Join us for a summer camp centered around the NTPA Deaf Theater Showcase. Campers will participate in musical-themed activities centered around one of the core musical scenes featured in the showcase, “Annie!” Activities include stage tours, set design, assistive technology trials, and costume/lighting/stage sound overviews.

Campers will receive free tickets to see the Friday 7:30 PM Deaf Theatre Showcase.

This is a collaborative effort among North Texas Performing Arts Deaf Theater, Broadway Dallas, and UTD/Callier Center.

Founded in 1991, North Texas Performing Arts is dedicated to developing the character of youth through quality performing arts education and family entertainment. With programming in Plano, Fairview, Frisco, Dallas, and Southlake, NTPA has become one of the largest arts organizations in North Texas. With diverse offerings and a family atmosphere, NTPA is a special place for youth to develop life-long skills to help them succeed on and off the stage.

The NTPA legacy continues to grow with our newest troupe NTPA Deaf Theatre added in 2022. This new adaptive theatre program provides opportunities for Deaf youth and adults to engage with the performing arts through educational programs and productions.

NTPA is committed to promoting equal access to the performing arts to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, while encouraging diversity, equity, education and social inclusiveness. NTPA Deaf Theatre programs are led by Deaf instructors and programming is guided by NTPA’s Deaf Theatre Management Board including a combination of Deaf and hearing volunteers.

OUR PROGRAMS
« Classes and Camps for youth in grades 1-8. These programs focus on an individual topic or skill and will help prepare students to participate in a Deaf Theatre production.
« Productions performed by a combination of Deaf and hearing actors. These shows highlight the diverse culture of the Deaf while bringing a story to life on stage.
« ASL Interpretation provided for performances throughout the year at NTPA’s locations in Plano, Fairview, Frisco, Dallas, and Southlake.
« ASL Internship for students age 15 and older with basic ASL experience. This internship provides an opportunity for students to learn theatre interpretation and practice in a real-life environment.
