SPIRIT WEEK KICKS OFF HOMECOMING FESTIVITIES AT TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

PRE-GAME ACTIVITIES, KICK OFF SCHOOLS’ OLDEST, BIGGEST TRADITION

Austin, Texas – September 14, 2009 Homecoming at the Texas School for the
Deaf (TSD) is still the most cherished tradition celebrated at the 152
year-old school. Students kick off Spirit Week at TSD today, which includes
friendly class challenges for the annual Spirit Award competition. Students
select a theme for each day of Spirit Week, and dress-up accordingly.
Together, each class competes and is judged for the most spirit each day.
During Friday’s pep rally, the class with the most wins during Spirit Week
is announced and takes ownership of the coveted Spirit Award for the school
year.

An exciting special performance Friday evening, includes TSD students and
Deaf community members appearing on-stage, when TSD and DeafACT, Inc.
present “Friday Night Live” – a hilarious, comedic variety show you’ll not
want to miss.

Texas School for the Deaf – located at 1102 South Congress Avenue – hosts
rival, California School for the Deaf (CSD)-Fremont on the gridiron,
Saturday, September 19 at 5:30 pm, where TSD’s 2009 Homecoming court will be
crowned during half-time. Rooted in long-standing tradition, each year
students, families, friends, alumni – as well as the opposing rivals and
fans – converge on TSD’s campus mall to celebrate together at the Homecoming
Festival prior to the game. During the festival, the TSD Alumni
Association’s long-awaited TSD history book will be available for sale and
pickup for pre-orders. To reserve a copy, visit http://tsdaa.org/.
