Call for Deaf Artists! “A Visual Symphony of the Deaf Experience” Art Exhibit

Tarrant County College is now accepting entries for an art exhibit about Deaf art and culture. In this juried exhibit, we would like to recognize the artwork of Deaf artists in our community. We recognize that Deaf artists share a valuable perspective on visual artmaking, and we want to share that with our student body and the DFW community. This exhibit will be featured with Tarrant County College’s “Deaf Deaf World” annual event, for an immersive Deaf experience.

The opening for the art exhibit will take place on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 5:30-8pm. The exhibit will remain on display until November 30, 2023.

Sales are encouraged – please include a price for your art if you want to sell. TCC does not take a percentage, nor do we run the sale – if someone expresses interest in purchasing, a TCC gallery representative will put them in touch with the artist. It is the artist’s responsibility to manage any sales using their payment method of choice (such as PayPal) and to arrange for the delivery/pick up of the art. All artwork must remain in the gallery until the closing of the show.

The best consideration deadline is September 15, 2023. Final deadline is September 25, 2023. Acceptance notifications will go out Sept. 30. For possible use of your artwork in our publicity, please submit artwork by September 15, 2023.

Please complete this form to enter your artwork into this exhibit – it is FREE to apply! This form will ensure we have your correct contact information if we have questions, and can complete the tags for your artwork.

Artwork must be display-ready. (framed and/or otherwise ready to hang or display) We do have pedestals available for three-dimensional or sculptural artwork – some have a glass cover with a locking door for security, and others are not. Please specify if you will need one in your description, and if you have a preference. If your artwork is intended to be displayed as a group, diptych, or other multi-artwork arrangements, please specify so on the form and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Up to five artworks may be submitted to this exhibit. Please understand that not every artwork may be accepted due to limited wall space.

We plan to have a panel discussion and/or artist talk with any artists who are interested in speaking to the visitors about their artwork and artistic process. Please indicate on the form if you have an interest in participating as a speaker.

Please be sure to provide a photograph of each artwork submitted via Google Drive, Dropbox, or comparable cloud storage service. Label your artwork images in the following format: firstname_lastname_title.jpg. Should you not have access to cloud storage, please submit your images via email to [email protected], with “Deaf Art Show Submission” as the subject line.

Exhibit Timeline:

  • Notice of Acceptance: September 30, 2023
  • Drop off Date: Weds, October 4, 2023
  • Exhibit opens: Saturday, October 9, 2023
  • Deaf Artist’s Panel – time(s) to be determined
  • Opening Reception: Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 5:30-8pm
  • Art Pickup: Friday December 1, 2023
