Become a BEI Rater — Open Enrollment Opportunity
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is accepting applications from qualified interpreters and deaf professionals interested in contracting with HHSC to serve as paid raters for the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) program.
Selected applicants will provide evaluation services on an as-needed basis to support interpreter certification candidates pursuing BEI certification in Texas.
HHSC is seeking applicants who meet the qualifications needed for trilingual raters who are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), English, and Spanish to support the growing demand for multilingual interpreter evaluation services.
Qualified applicants must hold an eligible BEI certification with the required professional experience or meet approved alternative qualifications for deaf professionals. Applicants must also possess advanced knowledge of linguistics, sign language theory, and interpreting competencies necessary to effectively evaluate interpreter certification candidates.
To be considered, applicants must submit an application that meets all Open Enrollment requirements and includes all required supporting documentation. Selected applicants will enter into a professional services contract with HHSC and will be compensated for services performed on an as-needed basis.
The Open Enrollment with full details is available on the HHSC website, including the application and other required forms. https://resources.hhs.texas.gov/open-enrollment/hhs0016380
